Car Numbers and Classification
- Car classification will be based on 2010 SCCA Solo Rules (PDF). Drivers are responsible for reading the rules and determining the correct class for their car. The SCR Novice Coordinator is available to assist with classification questions; e-mail thom@scsportscar.com.
- Car numbers will be issued based on permanent number registration, then on a first-come, first-served basis. Numbers only need to be unique within a class.
- Permanent number reservation comes as part of a driver's season pass purchase, or with the first event for which the driver registers (i.e., a driver who registers with car #22 A Stock will have that number reserved for the remainder of the season).
- Only one- or two-digit numbers will be allowed (0 - 99). Where there are two drivers in one car, in one class, then the second driver will be 100 plus the first driver's number (i.e., 99 and 199). If desired, drivers of the same car but in different classes (i.e., open and ladies) may use the same car number.
- All drivers must display, on both sides of the car, car numbers at
least 8" high and class letters at least 4" high. Shoe polish/glass
chalk numbers are not permitted. If you do not currently have numbers
for your car, we recommend the following options:
- Acceptable: Automotive-grade painter's tape will be provided at tech inspection; drivers can make their own numbers but they must meet the above size requirements in order to be visible to Timing and Scoring. Tech inspection has both dark blue and light beige tape; drivers must use the color that provides the highest contrast on their car.
- Better: Print out your own paper numbers and letters using our car numbers (PDF) and class letters (PDF) templates. Remember to make a copy for each side of the car.
- Best: Create or purchase custom vinyl or
magnetic numbers and letters for your car. Be sure to read our
Acceptable
Car Numbers and Letters article, and look at the photo examples,
to make sure your numbers comply with SCCA Solo Rules. Drivers
cannot receive an annual tech inspection
sticker unless they choose this option. Affordable vinyl and magnetic
numbers are available from the following locations:
- Solo Performance Specialties
- Panic Motorsports (South Carolina Region members)
- Each driver will receive a barcode label at registration. This label must be placed on the left side of the drivers helmet, for timing and scoring purposes. Drivers using loaner helmets should place the label on the top driver’s side corner of the windshield. Two driver cars will have two labels.
- Number/class designation on the sides of the car must match exactly what is printed on the driver’s registration barcode.
Event Conduct and Safety
- Safety must be the first priority for all participants. Anyone who is reckless or out of control while driving on course, purposefully or otherwise, will be removed from the event. This rule applies to competition runs and especially to fun runs.
- Absolutely NO alcohol or drugs, except for prescribed medications, are permitted at the event site.
- All participants are expected to act in a sportsmanlike manner. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification.
- Any participant seen speeding or driving dangerously on or around the site shall be disqualified. Tire spins, burnouts, and any other abnormal vehicle behavior is prohibited, other than during competition runs.
- All participants will remove all garbage from their areas. Drivers leaving garbage behind will be disqualified.
- Drivers will be held responsible for the actions of their crew and guests.
- There will be no refunds for drivers disqualified for misconduct.
South Carolina Autocross Championship
- The South Carolina Autocross Championship (SCAC) is a nine event points-based championship to determine the best autocrossers in South Carolina. Anyone may participate and earn points in any event, regardless of membership status.
- All drivers must display the official sponsor decals (if applicable) on BOTH sides of their car. Decals are available at the merchandise tent, and cost $3.00/pair or $5.00/pair with magnetic backing. This will be checked both at tech inspection and grid.
- Drivers must compete in at least five (5) of the nine (9) SCAC points events to be eligible for a championship.
- Each driver's two worst points events will be dropped from their points total. This can include any events the driver did not attend.
- Points will be assigned as follows: 1st - 10, 2nd - 8, 3rd - 6, 4th - 5, 5th - 4, 6th - 3, 7th - 2, 8th - 1.
- In the Event of a season points tie, number of wins is used as a tiebreaker. If the competitors have the same number of wins, then number of 2nd place finishes will be counted, and so on. If there is still a tie the person who got the best finish first is the winner.
Novices
- The SCR Novice class is a "Novice Introduction Class." The goal of this program will be to make first- and second-time drivers feel welcome at SCR events, and assist them in learning the various aspects of participation in autocross events.
- First-time autocrossers are strongly encouraged (but not required) to sign up for the Novice Introduction Class.
- While this class is target at first- and second-time participants, any driver with less than one year of autocross experience, or no recent (last 5 years) experience, may choose to register in the Novice Introduction Class. Drivers may participate in the Novice Introduction Class up to three times.
- Novice Introduction Class drivers will not need to find their "regular" class. All Novice drivers will run in the same group; an instructor will assist drivers with finding their correct class for future events.
- The Novice Introduction Class will typically follow this schedule:
- 8:30, 8:45 and 9:00 AM - Course Walks with Novice instructors
- 9:15 AM - Drivers' Meeting
- 9:30 AM - Novice Drivers' Meeting
- Run Group 1 - Work the course with an experienced corner captain (Novice drivers are encouraged to work the course, but may be assigned other positions if needed for physical or medical reasons)
- Run Group 2 - Ride with an instructor on course
- Run Group 3 - Competition runs with instructors available to ride along, if desired
- Run Group 4 - Brief review and Q&A session with Novice instructors
- Trophies will be awarded for the Novice Introduction Class, but there will be no points championship for this class.
Passengers
- Passengers must be at least 12 years of age. Passengers under the age of 18 must have a minor waiver signed by BOTH parents, just as if they were driving.
- Passengers must wear a helmet and seat belt, and keep arms and hands inside the vehicle during the run.
- Only one passenger is allowed in the car at a time.
- Passengers are allowed during competition runs at any time, provided all safety rules are followed. This rule does permit competing drivers to ride with other drivers, even if they have not yet completed their competition runs.

Cancellation Policy
- Drivers who register and pay online are encouraged to cancel their registrations if they are unable to attend the event.
- Drivers who cannot attend the event will have MotorsportReg.com credits issued to their accounts. These may be used at all future South Carolina Region Solo events.
- Drivers who prefer to receive a cash refund instead will be mailed a check for the amount of their entry, less a $5.00 cancellation fee.
- Credits will be automatically assigned within a week of the event; please contact Thom Mezzapelle at thom@scsportscar.com or (843) 602-1419 for refunds.
Season Pass
- Drivers who plan to participate in most or all championship points events may purchase a "Season Pass" that allows them to pay one discounted price for all South Carolina Autocross Championship points events. The price of a 2010 Season Pass is $170.
- Season Pass registration will be available at MotorsportReg.com until Thursday, March 18.
- Drivers must own their own Solo-approved helmet to be eligible for the season pass, as they will be given a lpermanent barcode label that must be affixed to the left side of their helmets.
- Season Pass holders do not need to go to on-site registration, but they must register online for each event they plan to attend.
- Drivers must be full SCCA members to obtain a Season Pass. Season Pass holders who let their SCCA membership expire must go to on-site registration to purchase a Weekend Membership.
- Season Pass holders who plan to campaign multiple cars will be given multiple barcode labels. Last-minute car changes are allowed, but the driver must register online with the new car and visit on-site registration to get the appropriate bar code label (no additional charge).
- There will be no refunds for missed events. The Season Pass pricing is of benefit for drivers who miss two or fewer single day events, or one two day event.
- Season Passes do not include non-points events.
Free Autocross
- Drivers who join SCCA for the first time are eligible
to receive a FREE SCR autocross entry. Drivers must follow these steps:
- Join SCCA online at SCCA.com. Be sure to enter a current SCCA member's number for a $15 referral discount. Drivers who don't know a current SCCA member should e-mail membership@scsportscar.com to get a referral.
- Upon receiving a confirmation e-mail from SCCA (it should arrive within a few minutes of joining), forward it to membership@scsportscar.com
- The SCR Membership Coordinator will respond with a discount code, which can be redeemed at MotorsportReg.com for a free one-day SCR autocross event any time during the 2010 season.
- Drivers may also join SCCA on-site at any event, in which case their entry fee will be waived. Please note that this method will result in a 4-6 week delay in membership processing.
Run Groups, Official Runs and Fun Runs
- All drivers will receive 4 official runs at most events. SCR reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of runs depending on attendance. Typically, attendance of 120 cars or fewer will result in 5-6 official runs, while attendance of 200 cars or greater may result in only 3 official runs.
- Run groups will be assigned by car class. There will typically be 4 run groups each day.
- If there is any time remaining after the completion of official runs, Fun Runs will be allowed for $1 per run. Only registered drivers, in registered, inspected cars, may compete in Fun Runs.
Sound Control
- Sound limits will vary depending upon the site. Please refer to the
following list to determine the highest acceptable sound reading for
each site:
- 95 dBA at 50 feet from course
- Freestyle Music Park
- Myrtle Square Mall
- Prince of Orange Mall
- Summerville High School
- 99 dBA at 50 feet from course
- BMW U.S. Manufacturing
- Florence Civic Center
- North Charleston Coliseum
- 103 dBA at 50 feet from course
- Michelin Proving Grounds
- Sound readings will be measured from the side of each car, during each run, at a distance of 50 feet from the course.
- Readings of +1 dBA or more over the sound limit will result in a violation.
- Drivers in violation of the limit will be given 10 minutes to make adjustments and one additional run. A second violation of the sound limit will result in disqualification, though additional chances may be granted at the discretion of the Operating Steward or Event Chair, depending on the level of violation and the efforts being made to quiet the car.
Special (PAX) Classes
Pro Class
- Pro is a PAX class open to cars of any class whose drivers wish to participate against the top drivers in SCR.
- Pro results will be determined by the 2010 PAX index.
Street Tire Class
- Street Tire is a PAX class open to cars of any class (except those listed below) that are participating on street tires.
- Street Tire results will be determined by the 2010 PAX index.
- No DOT-R compound tires are to be run in Street Tire. Tires must have a minimum tread wear rating of 140. In addition, any specific tire models listed under the current SCCA Solo Rules as ineligible for SCCA Street Touring will also be ruled ineligible for Street Tire.
- Due to the fact that this is a street tire class and the PAX index accounts for the use of street tires in ST, STR, STS, STX, and STU, these classes may not be run in Street Tire. It is recommended that competitors in these classes run in an open Street Touring class.
Technical Inspection
General Guidelines
- Each car must undergo a basic tech inspection to ensure that it is in a safe working condition.
- Helmets must have a SNELL 95 (SA, M, K) or newer rating. Helmets with only a "DOT" rating are not allowed.
- The tech inspectors are not responsible for classification of cars. It is the driver's responsibility to correctly class his or her own car. The Novice Coordinator is available at all events to assist with classing questions.
Annual Tech Inspection
- To be eligible for annual tech, drivers must be full SCCA members who have competed in at least nine (9) SCCA Solo events in the last three (3) years.
- Drivers accept full responsibility for inspecting their own cars.
- Drivers will receive a small decal to be placed on the windshield of the car, enabling them to bypass regular event tech.
- All cars must have some form of vinyl, magnetic or permanent numbers and class letters that match their designated class and comply with SCCA Solo Rules, prior to receiving an annual tech. Please refer to the Acceptable Car Numbers and Letters article on the SCR forum for examples of Solo-legal numbers and letters.
- All cars must have the required sponsor decals (if applicable) prior to receiving an annual tech.
- The event chairman or safety stewards reserve the right to reinspect any car at any time, regardless of annual tech status.
- Any car that has a major mechanical failure or undergoes a major modification must be reinspected.
- Annual tech inspections will be honored from the following SCCA
regions (driver must present proof of annual tech):
- Atlanta
- Buccaneer
- Central Carolinas
- North Carolina
Trophies and Awards
- Trophies will no longer be awarded for open classes at individual championship points events, except for the June 26-27 SCR/CCR event at Michelin Proving Grounds. Instead, trophy-winning drivers will receive a "1st Place, "2nd Place," or "3rd Place" decal.
- Novice Instruction Class will be awarded trophies at each event.
- Year-end plaques for South Carolina Autocross Championship winners will still be awarded as they have been for the last three seasons.
Waivers
General Guidelines
- All persons who wish to come on site must sign an SCCA Release and Waiver (PDF) form. This includes drivers, crew, guests and families. Waiver forms will be available on site.
- For events at Michelin Proving Grounds, all persons must also sign a Michelin Release and Waiver form.
- All persons on site must prominently display their wristband, indicating that the waiver has been signed.
Minor Waivers
- Minors (under age 18) must not sign the standard Release and Waiver form. Rather, an SCCA Minor Waiver (PDF) form must be completed on their behalf. Waiver forms will be available on site, though if parents wish to complete this form in advance, it must be printed in color.
- To participate, Minor Waivers MUST be signed by BOTH parents or legal guardians. Only in the event of a parent's death or a sole custody arrangement may one parent sign on the minor's behalf.
- To attend as a crew or guest, Minor Waivers may be signed by only one parent. However, the minor may not enter any of the "hot" areas of the site (course, grid).
- The Minor Waiver may be completed with "ALL EVENTS" entered for event location and "ALL DATES" for the event date. This will make the Minor Waiver valid for the entire 2010 season. BOTH parents must sign the form in order for it to be valid for the entire season.
Annual Waiver Program
- SCCA has now adopted an annual waiver program for full
SCCA members only. Members who wish to obtain an annual waiver
must follow these steps:
- Complete both pages of the SCCA Annual Waiver (PDF) form (must be printed in color).
- Have the form notarized or signed by a licensed SCCA registrar (licensed registrars will be available at all SCR autocross events and SCR member meetings).
- Upload or e-mail a personal photo to SCCA Member Services (membership@scca.com).
- Mail the completed Annual Waiver form to SCCA Member Services.
- SCCA Member Services will send a membership "hard card" to the member. Members who present this hard card at SCCA events will not be required to sign the standard Release and Waiver form.
- Annual Waiver hard cards cost $10.00 for regular members, but can be obtained for free with the purchase of a Solo License from SCCA, or for volunteering at least two days per year at an SCCA club race.
Work Assignments
- All drivers must complete a work assignment on each day of the event. Substitutes may be used as long as workers notify the Worker Steward prior to the substitution.
- Drivers who fail to complete their work assignment are subject to additional work assignments or disqualification, at the discretion of the Event Chairman or Operating Steward.
- Workers must check in with the Worker Steward before the group prior to their assigned work group finishes their runs. Workers for Run Group #1 must check in immediately following the drivers' meeting. Work changes will be performed “on the fly” to minimize delays between run groups. Please check in on time for your work assignment.
